Artist's Comments

This one took by far the longest to set up, I think it took me something like 3 hours just to set up my room this way (this is the only picture in the series that I took in my own house). The same super bright spotlight that you saw before in Plate 2 is shining into my window this time, making that volumetric light that you can see through the torn curtains, which are sheets that I went at with a steak knife. To soften the light, I had to put up an additional, untorn sheet outside, between the spotlight and the window. Doing this involved suspending the sheet by way of twine from the window on the floor of my house directly above the one that the photo was taken on. Funny anecdote: you'll notice that the lower left corner oof the image, below the stacked books and DVDs, is darkend significantly. Why? Well, had I left the image untouched, you would've seen a big, black, charred hole burnt into my carpet. This was due to an overturned floodlight that went unnoticed until I was done setting up. I'm very glad that there's tile underneath the carpet, otherwise I probably wouldn't have a house anymore. And, in case you were wondering, the guy in the big green chair is my daddy.

That shot glass he's holding is the one you gave me! He gave me a kind of weird look when I told him to hold it...

Heh, I didn't even notice that was a shot glass until you pointed it out.
